The Gift of Alzheimer New Insights into the Potential of Alzheimer and Its Care eBook Maggie La Tourelle Reviews

Before reading this book, I wouldn’t have put the two words gift and Alzheimer’s together but in her book Maggie LaTourelle has turned the concept, that there is nothing to be gained from this disease, on its head! As a personal friend of the author and chatting to her about her trips to and from Scotland, I got glimpses of Maggie’s journey with her mother as she progressed through this disease. I suspected something very special was happening between them but it wasn’t until I read The Gift of Alzheimer’s that I fully understood the breadth and depth of their experience together. Maggie’s diligence in recording and relaying her mother’s very open and candid comments made fascinating reading. I was moved to tears on many a page followed by bursts of uncontrollable laugher on others.

The family history and dynamics which Maggie introduces early in the book and at intervals throughout, provides insight into the turmoil her mother struggled to resolve during the final stages of Alzheimer’s. If that was insightful to read, it was more than surpassed by her mother’s extraordinary comments, communicated in a very matter of fact way, about her increasing experiences with the spirit world, family members who had passed away and the development of psychic skills. Backed by scientific research and studies, Maggie suggests that these experiences increase as the disease progresses and areas of the brain deteriorate allowing for other areas to develop and take their place. This is vividly illustrated as her mother let go of this world by healing old hurts and connecting with what lies beyond.

This book will bring comfort and hope to many whose relatives have this disease and help them view its progression in a very different and refreshing light. Maggie’s ability to communicate with her mother’s altered experience of living and her mother’s remarkably clear way of responding, created a loving, spiritual and meaningful relationship for them both.

Maggie’s journey with her mother revealed a rich world of new communication which up until now has gone unheeded. In our busy world, we seek to maintain the status quo rather than find another way. This book shows us another way and although there is still much to be explored, this window into Alzheimer’s disease has truly been a gift.
Maggie La Tourelle, a psychotherapist, holistic energy healer, using principles of kinesiology shares a deeper awareness of our multidimensional life force through her journaling with the progression of her mother's struggle with Alzheimer's. The disease offered Maggie and her mother a new opportunity to become aware of the real values of human life and love. Maggie's mother became aware that she was moving between two worlds- her physical and spiritual energy life, declaring "Don't cry; we are learning we are immortal Margaret. I will be around. I'll flutter around you." READ THIS BOOK to learn that we may find the gift of eternal life in every challenging situation we are asked to endure. If we embrace love rather than fear we reach a higher state of consciousness and know that we have done our best. Maggie shares her mother's wonderful quotes and amusing delight in the time she spent with her daughter, which is an inspiration to all of us dealing with aging parents and to be inspired to find the humor in ourselves and in our life.
Scottish author Maggie La Tourelle is now based in London as a writer, therapist and teacher. She has worked in the field of holistic healthcare for thirty years integrating psychotherapy, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), kinesiology, and healing. At a personal level she has ten years hands-on experience helping to care for both her parents at the end of their lives. Her book PRINCIPLES OF KINESIOLOGY is a global classic an now THE GIFT OF ALZHEIMER'S promises to rise to the same level of importance.

Though the only way to truly understand the process or journey Maggie discovered in living with her mother with Alzheimer's is to read this book slowly and with considerable time for reflection, there are aspects that should be brought to the attention of potential readers. Maggie outlines the Seven Stages of Alzheimer's very well indeed Stage 1 Normal, Stage 2 Normal aged forgetfulness, Stage 3 Mild cognitive impairment, Stage 4 Mild Alzheimer's disease, Stage 5 Moderate Alzheimer's disease, Stage 6 Moderately severe Alzheimer's disease, and Stage 7 Severe Alzheimer's disease - and each of these stages she details the subtle to obvious forms of degeneration of cognizance, neurological impairment, loss of muscle control, speech, and increasing rigidity. This chapter alone makes this book an important one for everyone's library.

But the beauty of the book is Maggie's and her mother's discovery that Alzheimer's disease may just be a bridge to the other world. "When her physical and mental faculties atrophied due to Alzheimer's, she started to experience intermittent altered states of consciousness in which her inner senses awakened. This open a channel to the Other World in which she had many extraordinary experiences. She frequently left her body and returned, she had contact with deceased relatives, she received instructions about the dying process and she previewed her own death and her life after death. These phenomena could so easily have been dismissed out of hand as delusional perceptions or hallucinations as experienced in mental illness. During this time she also developed the gifts of extrasensory perception telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, mediumship and channeling, which she demonstrated quite naturally and unselfconsciously. She described seeing pictures and hearing sounds through her inner `television' - her portal to the Other World....The last few year of hr life were, without doubt, very positive and this was the direct result of her having Alzheimer's. The disease enabled her to give and receive love as she had not done before and to have wonderful Other World experiences that prepared her for a good death and for her next journey.'

This book is so rich in scientific as well and humanistic and holistic information from Maggie La Tourelle that it should become required reading for us all. Very Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, June 15
